Brigadier General Samuel McGowan Camp 40
Laurens, S.C.
We are dedicated to the preservation of Confederate history, our monuments, and the gravesites of our heroes. We were founded in 1995 and are a very active camp. Our camp is proudly named after Brigadier General Samuel McGowan, a native son of Laurens county. Membership is open to male descendants of Confederate soldiers who served honorably in the War Between the States.
We take seriously the words of General Stephen Dill Lee, who stated "To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we submit the vindication of the cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldiers good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of the principles he loved, and which you cherish. Remember, it is your duty to see that the true history of the South is presented to future generations."
